ProSim, the French simulation and optimization software house recently joined the CAPEC (Computer Aided Process-Product Engineering Center) Consortium. This Danish consortium is a recognized institution for the research in computer aided process engineering (CAPE) and particularly in applied thermodynamics. It promotes the development of sustainable technologies within the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and biochemical industries.
The consortium gathers major players of these industries (Akzo-Nobel, AstraZeneca, Bayer, DuPont, GlaxoSmithKline, ICI, Mitsubishi Chemical, Petrobras, Roche or Unilever), and software developers such as ProSim, around the team lead by Professor Rafiqul GANI at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Technical University of Denmark.
"Joining the CAPEC Consortium is a natural decision for ProSim, since the company has always invested in research and development of innovative technologies, in close connection with major international research centres in this field" explains Stephane Dechelotte, CEO of ProSim.
In this field, the company is a long time member of the Professor Gmehling's UNIFAC Consortium, from the Oldenburg University. This allows ProSim to have privileged access to new developments from group contribution methods such as UNIFAC Dortmund or PSRK, widely used in particular for the synthesis and design of separation processes.
This new membership will enable ProSim to remain at the edge of CAPE developments, in the prediction of physico-chemical and phase equilibrium properties fields. "The quality of a simulation rests above all on a good representation of the system thermodynamic behaviour. As members of the CAPEC Consortium, we will be able to integrate in our software the most advanced and reliable models available, and our users will be the first to benefit from them" explains Stephane Dechelotte.
This new membership will also be valuable to ProSim's process design and consulting activities. Access to this consortium will allow our engineers to develop their expertise in these leading edge domains and, by multiplying bridges between upstream research and engineering production, to offer the best consulting services possible.

About ProSim
ProSim is an independent company, founded in 1989, with its headquarters in Labège (Toulouse - France). The company provides state of the art simulation and optimization software that allows process industries to increase their efficiency and their return on investment. ProSim solutions are designed for applications in the chemical, the refining, the gas treatment and the specialties chemical industries as well as in the pharmaceutical, the food processing and the energy industries. Its activities also comprise engineering process consulting and custom software development.
ProSim solutions are used to improve process design, increase plant efficiency and reduce their impact on environment. Thanks to long term partnerships with major research centres and to substantial investment in R&D, ProSim continuously develops innovative software and has become a recognised player on the international market.
The success of the company comes from the efficiency and the robustness of the solutions and of the calculation packages it proposes, but also from the quality of the services it provides.
The expertise and the know-how of ProSim personnel covers vast domains, including thermodynamics, physico-chemical phenomenon modelling, process simulation, energy integration, optimization techniques, numerical methods, software architecture, and GUI development.
ProSim is active 43 countries around the world, with over 470 customers among which major actors like Air Liquide, Akzo Nobel, Alfa Laval, Arkema, Braskem, Ciba, Cognis, EDF, Linde, Pharmacia, Praxair, Schering, Sintef, Sanofi-Synthelabo, Technip, Total or Wacker.
