ProSim has the pleasure to support a team in the Students Challenge, 2010 Edition. Two young students Anne-Sophie Grand (ENSIACET Toulouse) and Matthieu Grand (INSA Lyon), will drive an over 20 years old Renault 4L with ProSim colors from Toulouse / France to Ouarzazate / Morocco, a journey of around 1500 km. The start of the raid will be given on next December 27th.
This Student Challenge is a regularity based race, open to students from all countries taking place in six legs, partly on roads and partly on tracks. Speed is not that important, but a good management strategy combined with precise navigation is required to win the challenge. The winning team will be the one that will have accumulated the less penalty points during the raid.
The challenge is also meant to be eco-responsible. Each participant will purchase carbon offsets to balance the CO2 emissions during the raid. The purchase of “Carbon Neutral” stickers from the Actioncarbon.org web site will support the funding of sustainable development projects aiming at economizing the amount of CO2 emitted during the race. It is also to be noted that the organizing company Maienga provided Action Carbon with compensation for all CO2 emissions from their journeys for the Student Challenges 2008 and 2009 (plane, boat, cars).
Furthermore, the participants must complete a sustainable development project that falls under the United Nations Environmental Programme’s “Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign”. The project consists in planting young date palm trees and ensuring the necessary irrigation by creating a water catchment basin and providing a solar pump. Under local project management, personnel will be paid to water the young trees during the first year, in order for the roots to grow, reach ground water and live in complete autonomy. In a few years, the trees will provide food and comfort to the local village.
"The decision to support a team was not long to make" explains Gilles Hameury, Marketing Manager of ProSim. "We find ourselves very much in line with the concept and the ecological and humanitarian spirit in which the challenge is organized".
