| Solutia Inc. selects ProSimPlus HNO3 for the optimization of its Pensacola Plant | Top |
Solutia Inc., one of the world's few fully-integrated producers of nylon 6,6 from intermediates to polymers, plastics and fibers has selected the ProSimPlus HNO3 software to enhance the nitric acid production process in its Pensacola plant (Florida / USA).
Solutia operates a Nitric Acid plant utilizing selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for NOx abatement.
“We wanted to find a simulation software that was tailored specifically for nitric acid plants,” explains James Daniels, Team Leader of the Manufacturing Technology Department.
ProSimPlus HNO3 was specifically designed to address these types of processes. The software provides a specific thermodynamic package that includes a complete database of the pure components involved in nitric acid production and in nitrous vapours absorption, the appropriate property models, and the correlations for calculation of reactions or equilibrium constants. These unique features, that enable the user to quickly build up an accurate simulation, have led Solutia to leave aside most of the general simulation packages available on the market.

| ProSim's Short Course at the 2008 AIChE Spring Meeting |
Top |
At the next AIChE Spring meeting in New Orleans, ProSim will run a Spring Meeting Short Course on applied thermodynamics in MS Excel. This hands-on short course is designed for persons involved in the calculation of thermochemical properties (enthalpy, entropy, viscosity, thermal conductivity...) or in phase equilibria calculation.
The objective is to provide practical insight on some of the property models commonly used in the chemical industry. Examples and case studies, using Simulis Thermodynamics in MS-Excel, will enable attendees to approach rigorous methodology to set up calculation spreadsheet, test different property models and compare their results.
The Sunday Short Course is held on Sunday April 6th. Registration is handled by the AIChE.
ProSim is also Silver Sponsor of the event and holds a booth during the exhibition. Please visit us at Booth 1216 or send us an e-mail to set up a meeting: info@prosim.net.

| New options for for universities and public research centers: long term licensing |
Top |
In order to better answer to specific requirements of academic staff and research people, our academic program proposes a wide range of software at particularly interesting conditions.
Different licensing configurations are available. In particular, the "Class" license can be used by up to 60 simultaneous users. This option is ideal for lecturers who wish to provide software access to all their students.
ProSim recently added the long term lease option, with which academic institutions can lease the software over a period ranging from two years to twelve years. In order to ease the budgeting process, the license fee is paid only once, in advance, for the full period.
During the whole period users will benefit from software updates in order to keep using the same software as people in the industry.
Over 180 teaching or research centers throughout the world have chosen ProSim software to train their students and conduct their research programs.

| Focus on ProSimPlus new "double-pipe" heat exchanger module | Haut |
Among the unit operations available in ProSimPlus (general steady state process simulation), the double-pipe heat exchanger module allows the user to determine the heat exchange and the pressure drop in the tube and in the annular space of a "double-pipe" heat exchanger. The calculation is made from its geometry and the characteristics of its input flows.
In order to keep the necessary flexibility to allow an accurate representation of any exchanger of this type, while preserving an intuitive and easy utilization of the module, particular attention was brought to the data input windows.
Calculations can be conducted for pure component and mixtures, with possibility of condensation or evaporation in the tube and in the annular space. They are based on the property model associated with each flow. A wide set of methods for calculation of heat exchange as well as pressure drop is available.
