| ProSim and IFP sign an agreement for the valorization of the PC-SAFT model |
Top |
ProSim and IFP (Institut Français du Pétrole / French Petroleum Institute) announce the signature of a partnership agreement aiming to integrate the thermodynamic model PC-SAFT in ProSim software thermodynamic packages.
The IFP has recognized competencies in complex mixtures thermodynamics. It has developed and optimized a calculation code based on the SAFT (Statistical Associating Fluid Theory) equation of state, in its PC-SAFT (perturbed-chain SAFT) polar version.
This version allows (among other things) a better handling of polar or oxygenated molecules interaction. ProSim will add this code in its thermophysical properties calculation server, Simulis Thermodynamics, which will make it available in all software that integrate the server and in particular in the process simulator ProSimPlus.
"The quality of IFP’s work in this field and the competencies of its experts will help us quickly implement this new model in our software allowing users to access the model in convenient environments", explains Olivier Baudouin, ProSim Process Manager.

| Simulating a biodiesel production unit with ProSimPlus | Top |
This example illustrates the production of biofuel from pure vegetable oil with an alkaline catalyst.
The process involves a transesterification reaction that requires using an alcohol and allows producing biofuel and glycerol from oil.
It uses mainly simple reactors (for transesterification and catalyst neutralization), scrubbers and splitters to separate heavy components from light ones, and distillation columns to separate products and purify the biofuel.
The example shows in particular how to define several reaction sets for a process and how to use specifications imposed on columns output streams in order to reach required purities.
This example can be downloaded from ProSim's website. The file includes the ProSimPlus model and a description file.
